Construction sites to restaurants: Where D.C.’s immigrant strike may have had biggest impact
Yesterday, many immigrants across the United States participated in a "Day Without Immigrants" to highlight their contributions to this country. The demonstration forced restaurants, childcare centers, and schools in D.C. to close. In D.C., 48% of food workers, 46% of economists, 42% of physical scientists, and 61% of chefs are immigrants. According to "District, Measured", the majority of jobs that have the highest amount of immigrants are also the lowest paid.
