Contractors sue Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek over executive order requiring union labor
A group of Oregon construction firms is suing Oregon Governor Tina Kotek over a December executive order requiring union labor for many state-funded projects. The lawsuit, filed in Marion County Circuit Court, argues that Kotek exceeded her authority and that such a mandate should come from the Legislature or through state agency rulemaking. Supporters of the order say project labor agreements (PLAs) provide stability and fair wages, while opponents argue they limit competition and increase costs. The lawsuit follows a recent legal battle over PLAs in highway projects, and contractors want the order frozen while the case proceeds. Kotek’s office has declined to comment.
