Cornell University graduate students successfully unionize
Graduate students at Cornell University voted in favor of union organization last week, and they will be represented by the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America union. The union also represents various colleges and universities that recently voted for union representation. Cornell graduate university students at the Ithaca, Geneva, and New York City Cornell Tech campuses cast votes from November 6 to November 8, and over 96% of students voted in favor of unionization. Graduate students at the university had attempted to unionize but failed in 2017, and in 2018 Cornell University was found to have violated labor laws regarding the unionization vote. Cornell University's recent announcement regarding the graduate student union stated that university administration would bargain in good faith and work towards a collective agreement with the union if graduate students voted in approval of the union.
