Costco raises pay above $30 an hour for many, as Teamsters threatens strike
Costco Wholesale is set to raise hourly wages for many of its nonunion U.S. store workers to over $30 an hour. A memo from CEO Ron Vachris states that top-scale employees will see annual $1 increases over the next three years, starting at $30.20 an hour. Entry-level workers will receive a 50-cent increase, bringing their hourly pay to $20. The announcement comes as the Teamsters union, representing over 18,000 Costco employees, has threatened a nationwide strike over concerns about pay and benefits. The strike, if authorized, would affect fewer than 10% of Costco’s U.S. locations.
