Crab Boats Tied up as Strike Extends up and Down West Coast
Disagreements between West Coast crabbers and seafood processors over the price of Dungeness crab have resulted in 1,200 fishing boats refusing to leave the docks. Processors lowered the price of the crustaceans from $3.00 to $2.75 per pound, which could result in crabbers losing $7,000 - $10,000 in revenue. The initial impact on the supply of Dungeness crab is unclear, but as the amount of crabbers tying up increases the highly demanded seafood could run scarce.
