Malaysian officials are conducting searches for as many as 500,000 illegal foreign workers, whose four-month grant of amnesty has expired. The government is concerned about the burden on state services that the illegal workers put on the country. However, many companies in Malaysia rely on cheap foreign labor and the country is now suffering from a labor shortage.
