Critics of child-care union get favorable ruling
Michigan child-care providers represented by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy are hoping for good news after the Michigan Supreme Court asked a lower appeals court to explain its decision to dismiss their lawsuit challenging their unionization. The women who are challenging the union are part of a group of more than 40,000 child-care providers who work at home and are provided subsidies from the state. The union is a partnership between the United Auto Workers and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, and was created in 2006. They say that they are helping to ensure that the child-care providers are paid by the state. The lawyer for the women said that they regard the Court's question to the lower court as a positive sign that the Supreme Court might overturn their ruling.
