Croatia unions strike against labor law changes
Upwards of 100,000 people across Croatia went on strike Tuesday to oppose their government?s proposed changes to labor reforms. The workers were trade union members in both the public and private sector and have plans to take further labor action unless the proposed changes are not withdrawn. The unemployment rate in Croatia has surpassed 22 percent and showed no sign of falling, so politicians began working on ways to increase flexibility in the country?s labor market. The union members and others see the proposals as austerity measures pressed on the country by outside investors and their own political leaders.
