CT retirement community is latest battleground for job security as workers threaten strike
More than 70 maintenance and grounds workers at Heritage Village, a large retirement community in Southbury, Connecticut, are considering a strike starting September 1. Their union, Teamsters Local 671, says management has delayed contract talks and is seeking to outsource work historically handled by union staff. The current agreement expires August 31, and members will vote this week on authorizing a walkout. Union leaders argue outsourcing threatens both job security and service quality for residents, while management maintains some subcontracting has long been part of operations.
