Cuomo to Raise Minimum Wage to $15 for All New York State Employees
On Tuesday, New York's governor Andrew Cuomo announced an initiative that will increase the minimum wage in the state to $15 an hour for state employees. This new wage floor is expected to be in place by 2018. As much as 6.5% of the state's workforce could see a wage increase as a result of this law. Oregon and Massachusetts have set a minimum wage of $15 an hour for home care employees, but New York is the first state to set this high of a wage for all state government employees.
