D.C. Juvenile Justice Is Sued Over Safety
In a lawsuit filed against the Youth Services Administration, the union representing employees at the Oak Hill Youth Center has alleged that the agency has failed to provide a safe workplace. According to the suit, Youth Services has failed to keep records of hazardous incidents and done little to prevent the transmission of disease-causing pathogens. One employment law expert has commented that it is unusual to have a workplace safety suit involving the district government because these disputes are usually settled without litigation. Union attorney, Reuben A. Guttman, said that the city has failed to respond to requests for workplace safety improvements.
