D.C. Streetcar Workers Vote to Join Metro Union
This past Friday, workers who operate streetcars in Washington D.C. voted in favor of unionizing with The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU). Last year, the ATU was scheduled to hold vote for workers to unionize, but many employees were fired just before the scheduled vote and it was cancelled. RDMT, which coordinates staffing of streetcar workers, was accused of engaging in unfair labor practices. The National Labor Relations Board ultimately ruled in December that RDMT was justified in its decision to fire those employees. This recent vote to unionize marks a big accomplishment for these workers.
