Danes told to limit beer to lunch break
A group of disgruntled employees at the Carlsberg brewery in Copenhagen struck over the weekend in response to a new rule implemented April 1 at the brewery. Previously, warehouse workers and truck drivers were entitled to free beer at work, placed in coolers around the workplace (drivers were limited to three beers a day) with water and soft drinks. Now, warehouse workers have been told they may only drink beer in the lunchroom during their lunch break. Warehouse employees and other sympathetic employee groups struck in response to the decision. However, the employees say the strike is more about the arbitrariness of the decision, and the unfairness (drivers are still allowed three beers a day) than about the right to actually drink at work.
