Day of O’Hare strike begins with protest at West Town McDonald’s
340 cities and 20 airports are planning to protest today in support of a $15 minimum wage as well as union rights. In Chicago this morning, protests began in West Town at a local McDonald’s by low-wage workers including employees from various fast food restaurants and Uber. While the drivers are currently considered independent contractors by the company, they are demanding more support from Uber. Unfair labor practices strikes are also planned to occur later at O’Hare airport, where airport employees say they have met backlash after seeking to unionize. Chicago legislation currently plans to establish a $13 minimum wage by 2019.
