Decisions of Long Ago Shape the Union Today
UFW head Cesar Chavez became somewhat erratic and authoritarian in the late 1970s, and policies he enacted during this time linger within the union to this day. Though Chavez is remembered as an internationally acclaimed, visionary leader, during his later years at the helm of the UFW he became increasingly concerned with traitors, turning on proteges, some of his earliest supporters and close friends. Some policies he used during this time are still felt at the union currently.
