Delta's big attendants unable to wear new uniform; union protests
Delta Airlines recently commissioned a new uniform design in its signature fire-engine red from designer Richard Tyler, looking for something more sophisticated, and suitably eye-catching. Controversy arose quickly however, when employees and union members learned that flight attendants over a specific dress size would not be provided red uniforms in their size (only navy blue is available), and that employees who wore orthopedic shoes would be required to wear pants. The flight attendants union called the policies "unacceptable" and filed a grievance which was rejected by Delta, meaning that the issue will go to mediation. Delta has maintained that the design is Tyler's and he knows best how it can best be worn.
