Democrats choose union over Tesla in California cap-and-trade deal
California Governor Jerry Brown and Democratic law makers introduced a last-minute proposal to include fair labor practices as a stipulation to qualify for rebates under the cap-and-trade program. If approved, the proposal could end the heated labor disputes at Nissan and Tesla plants in California, by favoring unions and granting them greater leverage in negotiations with auto makers. Rebates for clean vehicles funded through cap-and-trade have helped companies like Tesla sell more than a hundred thousand cars, but this could be taken away if lawmakers approve the governor’s proposal on Friday. Sixty percent of the $150 Billion spending budget from cap-and-trade auctions is already dedicated to a high-speed rail, and the other forty is to be allocated at the end of each fiscal year, which ends this Friday.
