Democrats in Indiana End Protest and Return
After almost five weeks, Indiana Democrats returned to the capitol. The Democrats said that they returned after Republicans made concessions on several bills, including those that would effect public workers. However Republicans say that the concessions were minor and the Democrats bowed to public pressure. The Democrats left the state to prevent votes on several bills, including one that would prohibit employees in the private sector from paying union fees or dues. That bill has been withdrawn. The Republicans issued fines against the Democrats. The Democrats said that their time away gave people a chance to voice concerns they had over the legislative measures.
