Democrats Tout ‘Better Deal’ on Employment Issues
As part of a “better deal” campaign, several House Democrats recently introduced an agenda including new legislation focused on employment issues. Some main points of the agenda included revising trade policy, expanding paid leave for family, prioritizing apprenticeships, preventing large corporate mergers, and creating 10 million higher-paying jobs within five years. Although it was touted as a new, action-oriented plan, Republican critics have argued that the agenda only consists of recycled talking points. Many labor unions voiced strong support for the new plan, but details remain to be seen on how exactly the Democrat’s “better deal” will include and promote organized labor.
