Denver newspapers to begin union contract talks
Due to the recent management demand for immediate worker concessions, bargaining units at several Denver newspapers are set to begin talks for new contract terms. Members of the Denver Newspaper Guild met yesterday to discuss the requests from MediaNews Group Inc. (which owns both the Denver Post and a large share of the Denver Newspaper Agency), ultimately deciding to negotiate. MediaNews has been able to prove an estimated $130 million in debt, which was the motivating factor in its request for union wage and benefit concessions.
