Discrimination against pregnant workers has been rising, report says
A report released by the National Women?s Law Center and A Better Balance shows that discrimination against pregnant women in the workplace is increasing. The number of pregnancy discrimination claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over the past 15 years has had an upward trend. In fiscal 2011 alone, 5,797 claims were made and $17.2 million in compensation was paid out by employers. Most complaints surface with low-wage jobs including those in the home health, retail and restaurant industries that prove inflexible with making reasonable accommodation for pregnant workers.
