Disney employees rally before union talks begin
More than 1,000 unionized workers at Disney World rallied at the Lake Buena Vista hotel to push for better wages. The two largest Disney World unions represent over 20,000 workers, many of whom make far less than the requested $10/ hour. All of the employees interviewed had good things to say about working for Disney, but the recurring theme was the inability to support themselves and their families on their current wages. The last wage increase for these types of employees at Disney World came in March of 2013. The union members are hoping that by working with all unions at Disney World and using the recent increases in admission for visitors, they will wield enough strength to win a living wage in the upcoming negotiations.
