Disneyland character actors are seeking to unionize
Disneyland performers in California are seeking union representation from the Actors’ Equity Association. A majority of workers at Disneyland are represented by a union, but character actors, performers, and support staff are not unionized. The Actors’ Equity Association represents hundreds of actors and stage managers around the United States, and the union represents actors at Disney World in Florida. Workers have begun signing union cards in support of the union, and the union is hoping that over fifty percent of employees will sign union cards, which will allow workers to ask the company to voluntarily recognize union representation. Workers stated that they want greater safety measures and more stable scheduling policies. Workers are also seeking improved wages that match the high living costs in Southern California.
