Dissidents Pushing to Force Direct Vote on Union Director
Dissident leaders at New York City's largest municipal union, District Council 37, are pushing to persuade the union to allow direct election of its executive director, arguing that the present system is corrupt. The dissidents assert that the current system in which delegates elect the executive director allows two of the union's 56 locals to have undue sway over the election. They see direct election as a fair way to vote in an executive director.
