Document reveals Northwestern?s anti-union dialogue with players
Northwestern University has released a Q&A for students, parents, and staff which includes questions from those groups as well as background questions and the university?s official answers. Several times throughout the document, the university and Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald state that players will be ?stuck? with the union if they vote yes. In other instances, the answers urge the students to vote ?No? in the upcoming NLRB union certification vote on Friday. The document, which CBS Sports obtained independently, walks a very fine line between informative and speculative, but aside from select descriptors chosen the document appears to keep its facts straight. For instance, Northwestern informs players that even after a union is elected, they may be able to remove it after one year and that if the players strike, the university may be able to replace the team temporarily or permanently, depending on the reason for the strike.
