Drew Barrymore Show begins new season despite ongoing Hollywood strikes
Filming for the new season of The Drew Barrymore Show began this week, despite the ongoing Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes. The show is a part of the WGA’s contract, and the show’s writers have been on strike since May. For this season, Drew Barrymore or hired outside writers will be responsible for the content that writers typically create, such as jokes, interview questions, and opening monologues. If Drew and the show’s guests do not discuss and promote SAG-AFTRA projects, the show technically doesn’t violate SAG-AFTRA strike regulations. However, the decision to air live audience episodes for the new season is under controversy for crossing the WGA picket line. Drew Barrymore show writers and other writers picketed outside the CBS studio where the episodes are being filmed to express their disappointment.
