Eiffel Tower workers have been on strike for the past week, demanding wage increases
The Eiffel Tower has been closed for several days this week because workers have gone on strike demanding higher wages. Workers are represented by the General Confederation of Labor Union, and the union states that workers are willing to strike for several more days until the demands are met. The union is seeking wage raises that are proportional to the increases in ticket revenue. The Eiffel Tower brings the city of Paris millions of dollars each year, and Paris will also earn millions of dollars in revenue from the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer. Workers are also demanding increased maintenance on the tower as the metal has slowly begun to rust. The union stated that the city’s business model for the Eiffel Tower is poor, as it bases future revenue on an inflated estimate of the number of visitors, and this negatively affects employee wages and maintenance costs.
