Electrical workers at CenterPoint Energy in Texas vote on strike authorization
CenterPoint Energy, an electricity power company in Houston, Texas, may face worker strikes soon if workers vote in approval of strike authorization. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union represents unionized employees at CenterPoint Energy, and the union and company management have been negotiating a new contract for the past few months. The issues that the two parties disagree on are paid sick leave, wage increases, annual bonuses, and employee attendance policies. The main issue that the union is focused on is the number of paid sick days, and they want the company to implement a system that determines the number of sick days based on the number of years an employee has worked. CenterPoint Energy countered that it would provide all employees with five days of sick leave, and this proposal was rejected. CenterPoint Energy has stated that if strike action does occur, the electricity provided to homes will not be affected.
