Employees at Loretto Hospital in Chicago go on strike
Workers at Loretto Hospital in Chicago walked out at 7 am Monday after contract negotiations stalled. Over 200 healthcare workers are on the picket lines demanding wage raises and an increase in staffing. According to workers on strike, Staff turnovers and worker shortages are common at Loretto Hospital due to low pay. Workers are represented by the Service Employees International Union, and the union states that Loretto Hospital has spent $1.5 million on hiring temporary workers instead of using those funds to improve employees’ pay. The hospital brought in temporary workers as part of the contingency plan to continue operations during the strike.
