Various employees in the Google News division were informed this week that their jobs will be cut. Other Google subsidiaries that will also be affected by layoffs include Verily, a healthcare analytics firm, and Waymo, a robotaxi firm. Google has had several rounds of layoffs this year across many departments and subsidiaries, and the company has stated that a variety of internal structure changes have been made to streamline the company’s organization. The layoffs also come during a period of economic uncertainty, as revenue in the second quarter this year has been much lower compared to second quarter last year. Google will provide affected employees with outplacement services and severance packages.
