Employees represented by United Automotive Workers union strike at General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis assembly plants
Automotive workers represented by the United Auto Workers union began strike action last week, to demand the Big 3 Automakers for greater wages as these companies continue to earn record-level profits. The Big 3 Automakers are General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, and UAW strike action currently targets one specific assembly plant for each company. The union states that the worker strikes will expand to more assembly plants around the country if contract negotiations don’t steadily improve between the two parties. The United Auto Workers Union is demanding a 36% wage increase over the next four years, and the companies have stated that the most they will agree to is a 20% wage increase. A prolonged automotive worker strike will have significant impacts on the automakers, causing parts and vehicle shortages and inflation of vehicle prices.
