Employees sue Whole Foods for punishing those who wear Black Lives Matter masks
A lawsuit was filed Monday by Whole Foods Market workers who allege that the grocery store chain is retaliating against workers who wear Black Lives Matter masks. The 14 member group in the proposed class action lawsuit is accusing the retailer of sending employees home without pay as well as applying disciplinary procedures for wearing Black Lives Matter apparel. The company stated that the apparel is in violation of its dress code that prevents clothing displaying logos unrelated to the company to be worn while working. The lawsuit alleges that the company selectively enforces the code, allowing political messages and sports logos; one white plaintiff says she was terminated after organizing coworkers for a protest.
