Employees working for rideshare and delivery apps took one-day strike action on Valentine's Day
Thousands of delivery and rideshare workers in the United States and in the United Kingdom went on strike on Valentine’s Day. Employees working for Uber, Lyft, Doordash, and various other driver apps participated in the strike action in the United States. The widespread US strikes were organized by Justice for App Workers, and the group organized workers in several large US cities as well as major US airports. Cities that were affected by the strike action include Newark, Chicago, Austin, Philadelphia, Providence, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Hartford. Strike action in the United Kingdom was organized by Delivery Job U.K. and delivery drivers working for Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Stuart refused to make deliveries during dinnertime hours. Workers went on strike to demand better working conditions and additional protections for worker safety. Workers are also seeking increases in wages and a higher minimum wage.
