Employers cut 15,300 more jobs
Several companies have announced further job cuts, racking up another 15,300 layoffs in the U.S. yesterday alone. The total for this week is now over 100,000. The financing arm of Ford disclosed plans to slash 20% of its workforce, amounting to 1,200 jobs lost. Meanwhile airplane manufacturer, Boeing, revealed it will cut another 5,500 employees in 2009, in addition to the thousands of layoffs announced by the firm previously. Ford and Boeing are joined by Starbucks, Allstate, AOL, Abbott Laboratories, Jabil Circuit, and Dell ? a mix of insurance, technology and health care companies ? demonstrating the breadth of the current financial crisis.
