European Steel Workers Protest Cheap Chinese Imports
On Monday in Brussels, approximately 5,000 steelworkers met outside of several European Union offices in an effort to demand that protections against imports from China remain in place. Later this year, The European Commission will hold a meeting to decide whether China will be granted “market-economy status”. Workers and critics fear that allowing imports from China could destroy as many as 3.5 million jobs in Europe. However, The Commission maintains that this decision could only jeopardize 211,000 jobs.
