Express Scripts’ Tech Proficiency Mandate Called Age Bias
Three data entry technicians fired by Express Scripts are alleging age discrimination based on a proficiency software test done by the company. The workers at Express Scripts were required to achieve a 100% efficiency rating on a new software developed by the company, and when some older workers failed to attain perfect scores they were replaced by younger employees. There is already a precedent of ageism in tech companies, exemplified in Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg’s statement “younger people are just smarter”. Lawsuits concerning age discrimination in California tech companies outnumber those dealing with gender and race bias by 9% and 28%, respectively.
