Extra unemployment benefits end this week as 50% of Americans believe lost jobs won't return
The extra $600 in weekly unemployment benefits that the federal government implemented in April will end this week, along with federal protections against evictions. Congress is still debating whether and how to extend help towards the unemployed, leaving states with decidedly fewer resources to take up the slack. Meanwhile, a survey shows that Americans are pessimistic about jobs returning, with almost 50% of Americans who experienced a layoff believing that those jobs will never return.
