Extra Unemployment Benefits Lose in Senate
A Senate measure to extend federal unemployment benefits did not pass. The measure would have extended the emergency benefits program for six months. Although the unemployment rate is dropping, the economy still is not creating many new jobs. Some Republicans were opposed to the new measure because they felt that jobless workers have more incentive to find a job when the extra unemployment benefits stop.
