Fast-food workers call for a nationwide walkout on Aug. 29
Low-wage fast-food and retail workers campaigning for a living wage of $15 an hour have announced plans to strike on August 29. Organizers have symbolically planned the national walkout of cashiers, cooks, and crew members between the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Labor Day. The protesters' efforts have been energized by an outpour of social media support. Next week's planned demonstration is expected to affect 35 cities around the country.
