Fears of an economic slowdown making many office workers less likely to quit their jobs
Amidst a tight labor market, millions of workers quit their jobs in August in search of better wages and work conditions. However, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that office workers in professional and business services are not quitting their jobs in the same volume as other sectors such as the food service industry. There are heightened fears of an economic slowdown and job precarity amongst white collar workers as some large companies like Facebook have recently announced layoff plans. Further contributing to office workers' desires to remain in their current jobs are signs of a cooling job market which could make finding new positions more difficult.
