Federal judge upholds most of contentious Wis. union law, rejects ban on automatic union dues
A federal judge says that the majority of Wisconsin's anti-union law is constitutional. The judge did strike down two parts of the law, one that banned automatic dues withdrawal from paychecks and the other requiring yearly re-certification of the union. The lawsuit was filed shortly after the law passed last summer under the equal protection clause of the Constitution. The unions argued that because the law only applied to some public sector unions, not all, it was unconstitutional. Both sides said that they are considering appealing the ruling.
