Federal Workers Can Try to Convert Colleagues’ Religion
New guidance from the Office of Personnel Management significantly broadens the scope of religious expression allowed in federal workplaces. Federal employees are now permitted to pray, display religious items, and discuss their beliefs with colleagues—even attempting to persuade others—so long as it doesn’t cross into harassment. The memo emphasizes that religious rights are not diminished by government employment and outlines scenarios where such expressions are protected. It also clarifies that these activities should generally occur during non-working hours and that objections from coworkers should be handled respectfully.
