Fiat Strike Shuts Alfa Plant, Police Fight Pickets
A labor dispute at Fiat car parts plant in Melfi has halted production at an Alfa Romeo car factory as police battle with striking workers. The workers from Melfi, who are demanding better pay and shift schedules, have set up a blockade of roads around the factory which has prevented parts from getting to other plants in Italy where most of Fiat's cars are made. At least nine people were injured when police tried to break up the blockade.
