Fiat, Unions Sign Plant Deal Despite Protest
Fiat and four of the five unions at one of its plant sin Italy have reached an agreement. The agreement includes measures to reduce absenteeism, which is the main issue that the fifth union has with the deal, saying that it violates workers' rights. Other union leaders say that they are very happy with the deal and that the large increase in production in the plant will make a huge difference. The plant produced only 35,000 cars in 2009, but after Fiat invests 700 million euros in the plant, it is expected to make up to 250,000 cars a year. The fifth union has called for a one-day strike. The other unions will put the deal to a vote of their membership on June 22.
