Fifa pressed to address human and labor rights for the 2026 World Cup
The AFL-CIO and several other labor unions in the U.S. are calling on Fifa to address human and labor rights concerns surrounding the 2026 World Cup. The 2022 tournament in Qatar has already exhibited violations of both human and labor rights such as withholding wages, forced labor, and deaths of migrant workers. The AFL-CIO and other groups issued a demand to which they said Fifa’s response was “superficial” and that “There were no initial commitments, no serious commitment to engaging us.”
