Fight between rival unions shutters big Mexican silver-gold mine; strike close 2 others mines
Two prominent gold and silver mines in north-central Mexico have been losed due to an imminent labor conflict between chafing unions. The National Mine Workers? Union is contending with the labor group currently representing the workers, which the latter claims is a government front. Representation from the Union claims that the company terminated 200 employees over the weekend who had switched allegiance. The company has publicly denied the allegations. The mine closings are indicative of growing public dissent towards conservative, pro-government unions.
