Finally! Indian Country Gets Its Labor Force Report
A 151-page report was released on January 16th which details the state of American Indians based on survey results and statistics from 2010. The last such report was published in 2007 and used data from about three years prior to that. The report details both demographic information and labor and employment information. Some of the main findings are that about one-fifth of all employed Native Americans work for a government organization: federal, state, local, or tribal; a little less than a quarter of all Native American families earn income well below the poverty line; and labor force participation among Native Americans studied is below 50%. The report will be used to help determine the distribution of resources among groups of Native Americans, but also archived for historical purposes.
