Fire unions extend strike threat
The Fire Brigades Union conducted a walk-out on Sunday that will end after 48 hours. They also announced plans for another walk-out on January 27th. The walk-outs come after negotiations between the union and managers failed in December. The union agreed to some concessions but members rejected the contract. Talks are in progress for the union and the fire authority to enter binding arbitration. A spokesman for the union said that the union has been trying to get the fire authority into arbitration, but that they are blocking their efforts. A statement from the fire authority disputes the union's statement and says that the union only needs to sign the agreement for arbitration to begin.
