First, They Took On Taco Bell. Now, the Fast-Food World.
Having led a boycott which defeated Taco Bell in a four-year battle for higher prices and better working conditions, Floridian tomato pickers are setting their sights on other giants in the fast food industry. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers has sent letters to executives at McDonald's, Subway and Burger King asking them to follow Taco Bell's lead. It is unclear whether the other fast-food restaurants will capitulate to the coalition's demands for a penny more per pound and protection against farmworker enslavement.
