Flagging unions can win big by going small
The failed organization of Boeing employees in South Carolina may signify the need for unions to "think small". The tactic is known as micro-unionization, and involves unions targeting subgroups of employees at larger companies instead of all groups like in the South Carolina plant. It is a growing trend amongst labor organizers, who have believe its effectiveness is linked to the ability of small clusters of employees to come together over shared experiences. The ideal size of the mini-union groups is 25 people and has been successfully implemented by the United Steelworkers Union and SAG-AFTRA.
